What is Liposuction?
The concept of liposuction is surprisingly simple. Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body's contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. Liposuction involves the use of a small stainless steel tube, called a cannula (from the Latin word for reed, tube, cane). The cannula is connected to a powerful suction pump and inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse and thus result in an improved body contour.
What is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer is a procedure to take fat from one part of the body, usually, the abdomen, hips, thighs or buttocks and transfer it to another part of the body, usually the breasts, face, or buttocks, to give back volume where it has been lost, or to add a cup size or two to the breasts. It is also ideal for evening asymmetrical areas. It can also be used to correct facial scars and to cosmetically enhance the face and lips. Usually there is swelling and brusing after for a week or so.
This procedure will remove a patient’s own fat to re-implant it where needed. It is typically extracted from body parts like the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, and injected into another area that requires plumping, such as a patient’s facial features. When used as a facial filler, fat grafting can improve the creased and sunken areas of the face, and add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Fat grafting is also commonly used in buttocks augmentation, usually in place of tradtional butt implants.
